OPENING for One PhD student “Stavros Niarchos Foundation – FORTH Fellowship” for Institute of Mediterranean Studies

The Laboratory of Geophysical Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeoenvironment (GeoSat ReSeArch Lab) of the Institute for Mediterranean Studies of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), in the framework of the project ARCHERS, aimed at reducing or even reversing the brain drain, which is funded by an exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, is seeking to recruit one (1) PhD student.

Job Description Main objective of this research is the compilation of 3D reconstructions, 3D visibility analysis and virtual acoustics analysis of cultural heritage monuments with emphasis in in Roman or/and Greek theatres.

Eligibility Criteria
 BSc degree in Archaeology or Cultural Heritage
 MSc/MA degree in Archaeology or Cultural Heritage
 Good knowledge of Greek and English language

Desirable qualifications
 Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of the undergraduate studies (30 %)
 Grade Point Average (G.P.A.) of the M.Sc./M.A. studies (30 %)
 Documented experience (e.g. with a Diploma thesis and/or publications) on 3D reconstructions, 3D visibility analysis and virtual acoustics analysis (15%)
 Experience with 3D reconstruction (e.g. 3D Studio Max) and acoustics (e.g. Odeon Room Acoustics) software (15%)
 Publications in high impact peer-review journals and in national and international conferences (10%)

Location: FORTH, Rethymno, Crete, GREECE
Start Date: 1st of November, 2017
Duration of appointment: 12 months (with possibility of extension according to the needs of the project).

Selection Announcement The result of the selection will be announced on the website of IMS-FORTH (www.ims.forth.gr).

They also have the right to access (a) the files of the candidates as well as (b) the table of candidates’ scores (ranking of candidates results).
