Dr. Melda Küçükdemirci is a Post-Doctoral research fellow at Laboratory of Geophysical-Remote Sensing & Archaeoenvironment (GeoSat ReSeArch Lab), of  Foundation for Research and Technology, Hellas (FORTH). She received her Ph.D degree from the University of Istanbul in 2014. Her research focuses on geophysical  prospection for archaeology, Ground Penetrating Radar, Magnetometry and data fusion and integration approaches.


Mr. Dimitrios Oikonomou is a 1st  year  Ph.D candidate at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He received his Bachelor degree in Geology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2008 and his Master degree from the same University in Applied Geophysicsr  . His research focuses on developing novel algorithms for joint inversion of electrical resistivity and seismic geophysical data derived from environmental and archaeological applications.


Mrs Maria Cristina Manzetti is a 3rd year Ph.D candidate at Technical University of Crete, in Digital Media and Cultural Heritage. She received her Bachelor degree from the University of Rome Tor Vergata in Cultural Heritage in 2007 and his Master degree from the University of Rome Tor Vergata in archaeology in 2010. In 2011 she attended the 2nd level master in Geotechnology for Archaeology at University of Siena. Her research focuses on Roman theatres, Virtual Acoustics Analysis, 3D Visibility Analysis, 3D reconstructions and virtual archaeology application.


Dr. Athanasios Argyriou is a Post-Doctoral research fellow at GeoSat ReSeArch Lab of IMS-FORTH. He received his Ph.D degree from the University of Portsmouth in 2012 and he continued as a Post-Doctoral fellow a FORTH. His research focuses on geoinformatic (GIS/Remote Sensing/Geophysics) applications regarding the assessment of natural hazards risks, geomorphometrics, land use changes, urban sprawl, cultural heritage conservation and archaeological landscape. He has 17 publications in peer reviewed journals and international conferences proceedings.


Dr. George J. Tserevelakis was born in Heraklion, Greece, in 1982. He received the B.Sc. in Physics (2006), M.Sc. in Optics and Vision (2008) and Ph.D. (2013) from the University of Crete, Greece and he is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the In Vivo Imaging Lab of IESL/FORTH. During 2013-2014, Dr. Tserevelakis was a post-doctoral fellow and member of the Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging in Munich. His research interests include the development and application of novel optical, acoustic and optoacoustic imaging systems for the monitoring of complex biological processes in a label-free manner at microscopic and mesoscopic scales. His expertise also includes the incorporation and use of femtosecond laser nanosurgery methodologies for the in-vivo processing of microscopic specimens, such as cancer cells, C.Elegans larvas etc. Furthermore, his scientific work is focused on the design of compact, hybrid instruments employing cutting-edge imaging technologies and adaptive optics systems, optimized exclusively for the diagnostics of Cultural Heritage artefacts, as well as, the on-line monitoring during the laser cleaning of these items. So far (2017), he has published 19 scientific papers in international journals, 4 papers in refereed conference proceedings, one book chapter and has one patent to his name.


Mr. Ioannis Paradisanos is a 3rd year Ph.D. candidate at Physics Department of University of Crete (UoC) and performs his research activities at the Foundation for Research and Technology—Hellas (FORTH). He received his B.Sc. degree from the Materials Science and Technology Department of the UoC in 2012 and his M.Sc. degree from Physics Department of the UoC in 2014. His research interests include ultrafast laser synthesis and spectroscopy of 2D materials, multifunctional responsive hierarchically structured surfaces and novel ultrafast laser micro/nano processing techniques.


Mrs. Evangelia Gavgiotaki is a 3rd year Ph.D candidate at Medical Department of University of Crete. She received her Bachelor degree from the Physics Department of University of Crete in (2011) and her Master degree from the Physics Department of University of Crete in Optoelectronics – Microelectronics (2014).  Her research focuses on the application of various spectroscopic techniques with emphasis on advanced microscopic modalities in biomedicine.

The Institute for Mediterranean Studies of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), in the framework of the project ARCHERS, which is funded by an exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, is seeking to recruit 3 post-doctoral fellow. The project aims at reducing or even reversing the brain drain by providing high quality research opportunities to young scientists of Greek origin.

Job Description The Stavros Niarchos Foundation – FORTH fellows are expected to perform high quality research within one of the research areas, in which FORTH -IMS excels both on the national and the international level www.ims.forth.gr. More specifically, the domains of interest in the present project are the preservation of cultural heritage and the science and innovation in the areas of environment, clean energy and health as well as the societal implications of innovation in these sectors.

Part 1: 2 Post – Doctoral Fellows satisfying the below eligibility criteria

Eligibility criteria
PhD degree in Earth Sciences, Geology, Geophysics, Enviromental Sciences, Mineral Resources, Engineering, GeoInformatics, Geotechnologies or related disciplines.
 Good knowledge of Greek and English language

Evaluation Criteria
 Publications in high impact peer-review journals
 Participation in national and international conferences
 Quality of the proposed post-doctoral project
 Ability and motivation to perform independent research
 Previous post-doctoral research experience
 Experience with computer programming and geophysical processing software
 According to international practice, the academic age (number of years after the Ph.D. degree award year) will be taken into consideration as a selection criterion; preference will be given to PostDoctoral researchers with an academic age less or equal to 10 years.

Part 2: 1 Post – Doctoral Fellow satisfying the below eligibility criteria

 PhD degree in Social and Economic History, History of Technology
 Good knowledge of Greek and English language

Evaluation Criteria
 Publications in high impact peer-review journals
 Participation in national and international conferences
 Quality of the proposed post-doctoral project
 Ability and motivation to perform independent research
 Previous post-doctoral research experience
 According to international practice, the academic age (number of years after the Ph.D. degree award year) will be taken into consideration as a selection criterion; preference will be given to PostDoctoral researchers with an academic age less or equal to 10 years.
